Master Chef L. Timothy Ryan earned the Certified Master Chef title in 1985. 

Career highlights:

  • Serves as Chancellor of The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), advising the college president and leading strategic initiatives.
  • Served as President of the CIA for 23 years—the longest-serving president in the college’s 75+ year history.
  • Earned a Bachelor’s and MBA from the University of New Haven, and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Pennsylvania.
  • Elected national president of the American Culinary Federation (ACF) at age 36—the youngest in its history.
  • Named ACF Chef of the Year in 1998.
  • Serves on the Board of Trustees for the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation.
  • Director of the National Restaurant Association.
  • Board member of the Ment’or BKB Foundation.
  • Named “One of the 50 Most Powerful People in Food” four times by Nation’s Restaurant News.
  • Recipient of numerous industry honors, including:
    • Presidential Medal from the World Association of Chefs Societies (one of only five Americans ever honored)
    • Inducted into the James Beard Foundation’s Who’s Who of Food & Beverage in America
