George McNeill, CMC

Master Chef George McNeill earned the Certified Master Chef title in 1988. 

Career highlights:

  • He was captain of the 1996 Canadian National Culinary Olympic Team, which brought three gold medals home from Berlin. 
  • Wass Executive Chef at the Royal York Hotel. 
  • Named “Chef of the Year” in 1996 by the Escoffier Society and the Canadian Federation of Chefs and Cooks; followed by the Ontario Hostelry Institute in 1997.
  • Awarded the prestigious Order of the Golden Toque in 2007.
  • Holder of the ACE Award from Marriott—its highest honor for culinary excellence.
  • Recognized for his involvement in culinary education—serving as a judge for ACF competitions, examiner for certification boards, advisor to U.S. National Culinary Teams, and mentor through institutions like The Culinary Institute of America, Johnson & Wales University, and the French Culinary Institute.
  • In 2008, he was bestowed an Honorary Doctorate by Baltimore International College for Culinary Arts.
